The nature is much more sensitive than most of us believe

It is fragile and vulnerable – every day. Every year, there is a time in which it is particularly important to
restrain your own needs: The breeding season of birds.
But not only the breeding season, it’s especially the time before this when birds are searching and
constructing their nests. This time should be kept in mind, too.
Not every take-off area adverts to no-fly times and zones. The first thing to do while preparing for
Paragliding should be to get a proper understanding of nature.
Because nature itself is what makes our sport as unique as it is. Flying in and with nature.

But as nice as this sounds – there is a problem. And it is much bigger than most of us think. Our
feathered friends are stressed by the freeway on their doorstep. They are not able to find appropriate
breeding places anymore which results in the steady extinction of different bird species.

Do we want to be responsible for that? No, of course not. So let’s stand strongly and united for this
matter. Prepare yourself carefully regarding your take-off area and nature itself. Communicate with each
other. Pass on your knowledge, even to the people who did not yet come along this subject. Speak
actively to people, especially when you see that someone disregards no-fly times and zones.

The incidents multiply, no-fly zones are not obeyed.

We demand a definite time of flying bans in every relevant flight area and not just bloated no-fly zones.A first overview of the protected areas gives you this map

An example:

A soaring area at the cliffs of the baltic sea. Home to the sand martin. The sand martin starts selecting and constructing its breeding places at the end of march and breeds until July. In the past years people started flying at these spots. Following local birdwatches and lovers of nature the bank swallow population is gone…

„The sand martin once had its home in the steep walls of vegetation-free bank crashes. Today, this habitat hardly exists in Central Europe.“

We think that it is a pity that most paragliding-spot-apps do not deliver warnings about protection times and areas. Due to that we are even more happy that paragliding 365.com wants to include something like this shortly. There will be an additional column for every flight area around the world in the single flight areas‘ descriptions. We will cover that soon.

We would be happy, if you help us improving the whole situation. Let’s protect nature together, so that we can keep flying in harmony with nature!
